Getting the PM Surya Ghar subsidy involves coordination across three agencies: MNRE (national portal), NPCL or UPPCL (your local DISCOM), and UPNEDA (state nodal agency). Here’s what that looks like when you work with Solar Oorja:
Portal Registration Guidance
You register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in (this step needs your personal login). We walk you through every field, tell you exactly which DISCOM to select (NPCL for most of Noida, UPPCL for parts of Greater Noida), and make sure nothing gets filled wrong. A wrong DISCOM selection is one of the most common reasons applications get stuck.
DISCOM Feasibility and Coordination
After your registration, NPCL or UPPCL needs to approve feasibility. We follow up with the DISCOM office directly. We know the teams, we know the timelines, and we know when something needs a push. We’re in Sector 4, Noida, not in a call center in another state.
Installation with Full Documentation
We install your system and immediately upload all required documents on the portal: installation photos, component serial numbers, technical specifications, invoices. This step has zero delay from our side because we do it the same day we commission the system.
Net Meter Application and Inspection
After installation, we file your net meter application with NPCL/UPPCL, coordinate the inspection date, and make sure your site is ready for the DISCOM inspector. Once they verify and install the bi-directional meter, the commissioning certificate is generated on the portal.
Subsidy Disbursement Tracking
We submit your bank details on the portal and track the disbursement. The central subsidy (₹78,000 for 3kW+) hits your bank account within 30 days of commissioning, via Direct Benefit Transfer. The UPNEDA state subsidy (up to ₹30,000) follows after that. We keep you updated until both amounts land.

You're NOT eligible for this subsidy if
- Your property is commercial (office, shop, factory, warehouse). Commercial properties get 40% accelerated depreciation instead, which we also help with.
- You want an off-grid or hybrid system. Subsidy is for on-grid only.
- Your solar system capacity exceeds your sanctioned load on the electricity bill.
For housing societies
RWAs can apply for common area solar (lifts, pumps, streetlights). Subsidy is ₹18,000 per kW, capped at 500kW per society.

On paper, the PM Surya Ghar process is straightforward. In practice, it has moving parts that trip people up.
The portal confuses people
Which DISCOM do you select? NPCL? PVVNL? UPPCL? Pick the wrong one and your application sits in a queue that doesn’t exist for your area.
DISCOM approvals take time
Feasibility approval from NPCL can take 7 to 15 days. Sometimes longer when there’s a backlog. Without follow-up, it just… waits.
Documentation mismatches stall everything
Your Aadhaar name, property documents, and bank account need to match exactly. One spelling difference and the DBT transfer gets rejected.
Net metering has its own timeline
After installation, the DISCOM needs to inspect, install a bi-directional meter, and issue commissioning. Miss the inspection window and you go to the back of the line.
The state subsidy isn't automatic
UPNEDA releases the UP state subsidy only after the central subsidy is disbursed. If nobody’s tracking it, you might get the ₹78,000 and forget there’s another ₹30,000 coming.

Is the PM Surya Ghar Yojana subsidy still available in 2026?
Yes. The scheme runs through FY 2026-27 with a ₹75,021 crore budget. Registration is open on pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Over 30 lakh households have enrolled so far across India. Apply sooner rather than later because subsidy budgets are allocated first-come, first-served.
How long does the whole process take from start to finish?
From registration to installation: about 15 to 30 days (mostly waiting for DISCOM feasibility approval). Installation itself takes 1 day for a typical 3kW home system. Subsidy reaches your bank account 30 to 90 days after commissioning, depending on DISCOM processing speed.
Can I get subsidy if I live in a flat (apartment)?
Individual flat owners can apply if they have exclusive rooftop access and their own NPCL/UPPCL connection. For most high-rise societies, the RWA applies for common area solar instead. We help with both.
Does the panel brand affect my subsidy amount?
No. Subsidy is based on system capacity (kW), not brand. Whether you choose Tata Power Solar or Adani Solar panels, the subsidy stays the same. But both panels and inverters must be BIS-certified to qualify.
Can I get solar without subsidy if I don't qualify?
Absolutely. The subsidy makes solar cheaper, but solar is profitable even without it. A 3kW system without subsidy still pays for itself in 4 to 5 years and then generates free electricity for 20+ years after that.
What if I already have solar panels but didn't get subsidy?
The subsidy requires installation through the PM Surya Ghar portal by an MNRE-empanelled vendor. If your existing system was installed outside this process, it likely doesn’t qualify retroactively. Call us and we’ll assess your situation.
